This program demonstrates Jill’s abiding affection for poetry and old ballads. Robert Burns, Sir Walter Scott, Thomas Moore, William Butler Yeats and John Masefield are among the poets represented, from the 18th to the 20th centuries. The ballads, including pieces in French and Ladino, date from the Middle Ages through to more recent times. Some of the tunes are traditional, while others have been set more recently by singers around the world. Jill’s new harp arrangements for several of the pieces encapsulate the emotions often hidden between the lines of these time-honoured texts. (Never fear, however: some of these songs actually have a happy ending!) This is a magical experience.
