that Jill has set to music
Here's a list of the poems and lyrics (by other people) that Jill has set to music over the years. She has recorded The Conflict [on Across the Narrow Seas]. Noam Yaldat Hapele has been recorded on film for use in a documentary about Beit Agnon, formerly the house of Israeli writer S. Agnon, and now a meeting-place for poets and story-tellers in Jerusalem. Jill has made a rough recording of Porke No? for Israel Radio, which is for broadcasting purposes only.
She has recorded some for her fourth album, The King's Well, and her live album, In the Heart of Winter, (see the page Jill's Albums on the Menu for details), and hopes to record the rest one day.
All of Jill's poem settings are protected under the administration of ACUM, the copyright organisation in Israel.

-- A Jewish liturgical song, sung as the Torah scrolls are returned to the ark. Romanian-born Blumenthal (1805-1903) was a famous hazan (cantor). By the 1950s, his melody had gone through the 'folk process': the first part remained as he had written it, but the second half had changed considerably. This melody is sung throughout the Ashkenazi communities of the former British Commonwealth.

-- Jill's arrangement, for soloist and four voices (SATB), is based upon a traditional harmony that she learned from the singing of American duo Kathy and Carol (Kathy Larisch and Carol McComb). Varda Seelig slightly adapted Jill's original voicings for the Kibbutz Youth Choir, who premiered the piece with Jill at the Abu Ghosh Vocal Festival in October 2003.
